You may know, your body generates vitamin D but it needs sun to do this work and you'll likely know that due to our work pressure it prevents many people from getting adequate sun exposure. Work, school and play activities which are indoor can prevent you from getting adequate sun therefore adequate production of vitamin D.
Avoiding the Sun completely can have a devastating effect on your health unless you are supplementing with vitamin D. I recommend supplement but not just any supplement it has to be a totally perfect one to be effective.
Vitamin D is made by the body which disqualifies it from the strict definition of a vitamin D actually works more like a hormone and it's a precursor to steroid hormones naturally produced in your body. According to the Howard School of public-health 57% of patients admitted to a Boston hospital was shown to be deficient in vitamin D in the year 2006 and this number has increased to about 75% in 2018.
Since starting my nutrition consultancy I have always encouraged my clients to request a blood test to identify their vitamin D levels it's not routine so you will have to ask for it and I'm amazed at the number of people coming back to me & saying that "I'm surprised to find I have such a low level of vitamin D and I am actually vitamin D deficient."
When your vitamin D levels are low your body's ability to absorb and retain calcium and phosphorus is reduced. calcium and phosphorus are crucial for bone building.
chronic deformities can become dominant we should understand that food sources of vitamin D are very rare, only egg yolks, liver, and fish naturally contain it. Dairy products are fortified with it so the list is very short, that is the reason proper vitamin D supplementation and adequate amount of exposure to sunlight is very important.
Certain studies have also stated the correlation between lower levels of vitamin D and a higher risk of certain cancers specifically prostate, breast, and colon cancer. It states that vitamin D kills cancer cells and can help cells differentiate between normal cells and cancer cells
When your skin is exposed to the sunlight the cholesterol present in the cells of your skin is converted to a cholecalciferol called vitamin D3 and then to calcitriol the active form of D3.
Now if you choose to supplement with vitamin D your best choice is vitamin D3 from cholecalciferol because it's the form your body produces naturally.
